Year 10:
a year of making choices
Year 10 is a very important time for students to make career plans and investigate pathways and options for their future.
Options open to Year 10 students include choosing to:
a) continue at school:
b) leave school at the end of Year 10:
Young people who have completed Year 10, but are younger than 17, may leave school if they are engaged in full time study, employment or a combination of the two (including an apprenticeship or traineeship). For these purposes, "full time" is defined in the Act as a minimum of 25 hours per week.
Subject Selection for students continuing on to Year 11
There is much advice and information provided by the school and by various institutions including universities, UAC (Universities Admissions Centre NSW & ACT ) and TAFE for students and parents to take into consideration.
Selecting a pattern of study involves:
-choosing subjects which will enable you to receive an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) IF applying to university is a goal or option
OR
-choosing subjects that enable you to receive the HSC but may not necessarily enable you to receive an ATAR if your future does not involve studying at university at this stage.
